How to Budget for Your Costa Rica Destination Wedding

How much does a destination wedding in Costa Rica cost? What is the average price of a wedding in Costa Rica? How can I budget for my wedding in Costa Rica? Why is Costa Rica more expensive than I thought?

Questions feel familiar? One of the first things to consider when deciding on a destination wedding in Costa Rica is cost. While Costa Rica is more expensive than its central American neighbours, it delivers unparalleled vendors, service, venues and safety. Plus it is the most naturally beautiful, in our eyes.

The costs of all weddings are different and the cost of a destination wedding depends on your vision and how elaborate or simple your dream wedding is.

Planning your budget for a destination wedding in Costa Rica? Here are our 5 top tips to help reduce your overall wedding cost

1. Guest Count

When deciding on your guest list for your wedding in Costa Rica, remember that keeping it smaller will significantly reduce your overall wedding cost. Fewer guests mean lower costs for food, drink and rentals, though not every cost is affected by guest count. Based on our experience with destination weddings, typically you will have around a 15% drop off of your original guest list.

2. The Venue

Selecting the right venue is often the biggest task - and the largest cost - of your destination wedding.  With so many options, from restaurants and hotels to private villas, choosing a venue in Costa Rica that includes certain amenities can help reduce your costs. For example, restaurants often provide tables, chairs, cutlery and glassware, while a venue that’s also your accommodation helps you save on rental and venue costs.

3. Favors

Here in Costa Rica, creative favors and decorations like menus, name cards, table numbers, polaroid cameras and fans can be harder to get hold of. These little touches make your wedding feel special and unique, but costs can quickly add up. Packing some of these in your suitcase for Costa Rica can save you money and ensure you get the look you want. â€‹â€‹â€‹

4. Seasonality

Costa Rica’s ‘Green Season’ - May, June, September, October and November - is our low season. During these months, venues and accommodations are generally more affordable.

The high season runs from December to April and July to August, when prices will be at their highest.

The busiest period is December 15 to January 5, when rates for venues, hotels and vendors can double or even triple.
